Holding Steady Through Swift Transitions

October always feels like a threshold month for me. The air cools, the leaves begin their turning, and I celebrate another year around the sun. Birthdays invite reflection: where have I been, what has shifted, what is still calling me forward?

One of my favorite hymns says, “life is filled with swift transitions.” And isn’t that the truth? In our lives and in our organizations, change is constant. Funding ebbs and flows, leadership shifts, communities evolve. Some days it can feel like the ground is moving beneath us.

And yet, the hymn reminds us: “Hold to God’s unchanging hand.” In the midst of transition, there is a steadying. For me, that steadying shows up in breath, in prayer, in community, in the practices that remind me of who I am and why I am here.

At ashlove, LLC, I walk with leaders and organizations in these seasons of transition. Together, we discern what can be released, what must be carried forward, and how to root deeply even as everything around us shifts. Because while life is filled with swift transitions, there is also growth, becoming, and the possibility of renewal.

So this month, as I step into a new year of life, I offer this question to you:

What is steadying you in this season of transition?

May you find strength in what is unchanging, and courage to keep walking through what is shifting.
